The quarreling between China and Japan started in 1931 when Chinese and Japanese relations froze. This was the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War. In 1937, China was desperate to defend itself from incoming imperial Japanese attacks. The obsolete Chinese biplanes were no match for the fast and maneuverable Japanese aircraft. Then, in 1937, Japan invaded Manchuria in Central China and subsequently northern China. Around 20 million Chinese people died in the Sino-Japanese War (Dogfights, 2014)
